| Jamaica
used to be a British colony. Many Jamaicans
have migrated to the UK and therefore it
shouldn't be too much of a suprice to find
out that Reggae is strong in the UK.
Back to 1978. In this time, Reggae Music
was about 12 to 15 years old. And in the UK,
the music was not only popular amongst the
Jamaicans. There were many who felt the
pressure as well and turned to the Freedom
Sounds called Reggae Music.
In the UK, artists and bands began to
play "homegrown" Reggae in
addition to Jamaican import music. One of
the names that pop up everytime is Dennis
Bovell. He was also involved in a band
called Matumbi, who we meet in this video.
We can listen to a track called
"Rock" as we see the band
performing it in the studio. After the
track, there is a short interview with
members of the band, who explain why Reggae
is getting so popular amongst the
downpressed of the UK.
