| Some
people like a certain singer, and they buy
an album based on the singer's name.
Sometimes, they get dissapointed and they
don't know why. But in Reggae, it's as
important to know the sound engineer as it
is to know the singer.
The sound engineer has certain riddims on
the multi track recorder, and the singer
sings over it. This often happenned in King
Tubby' studio as well. King Tubby's didn't
record whole bands: this happenned in
studio's like the famous Channel One.
In this video, we'll get a view into King
Tubby's studio. This is where singers were
recorded and where Tubby's incredible DUBS
were mixed as well. Unfortunately, we don't
see Tubby's at work.
What we do see, is a young Wayne Smith.
The year in 1982, and Prince/King Jammy's is
at the controls while Wayne Smith sings a
song in his skillfull way. Jammy's sound and
Smith's voice go wonderfull together.
