COUNT OSSIE - NYABINGHY
DRUMMING IN JAMAICA, 1966
Many
people think, that Reggae is Rasta Music and
yes, to a very large degree this is so.
However, when you really want to know the
Rastaman's Rhythm, you must check out the Nyabinghy
rhythm.
Nyabinghy means "Death to black and
white downpressors", and was introduced
as a rhythm by Count Ossie, somewhere in the
early 1960's.
In this historical footage, shot during
Haile Selassie's visit to Jamaica in 1966,
we will see the Count himself as he performs
the rhythm to celebrate the visit of the
Ethiopian Lion of Judah.
