people think, that when you want to learn
something about Rastafari, you have to go to
Jamaica. Some even think that the colours
red-gold-green are the national colours of
Jamaica. But even though (just like Reggae)
the movement started on Jamaica, Rastafari
is all about Africa and especially Ethiopia.
So when you want to know something about
Rastafari, why not visit the country which
is mentioned in the Bible from the first
page and beyond? The keyword is
"Shashamane". This is land donated
by the Emeror Haile Selassie for all
Africans in the diaspora.
Rastas develop many things in Shashamane.
They're working on schools, for example. The
video reviewed in this review is part of a
Shashamane school project. It is the video
of an interview with a Rastafarian
"priest" about Shashamane and
Rastafari in general.
In the video, the Rastaman speaks about
the relationship between Rastafari and
Christianity. He takes away the idea, that
all Rastas believe the Ethiopian Emperor to
be the incarnated JAH Rastafari (Almighty
God). He mentions Vernon Carrington, the
founder of the largest Rastafarian
Organization in the world: The 12 Tribes Of
Israel Organization. Also called
"Prophet Gad" or simply
"Gadman", Vernon Carrington
repeatedly told people to accept Yesus
Kristos as their Lord and Saviour and also
that Haile Selassie was not Jah Incarnated.
