HISTORY OF MARIJUANA is an entertaining and
informative look at the 20th century history
of ganja in the United States of America.
Obviously, the real history of marijuana
goes much further and is definitely not
restricted to the borders of the USA. But
the video tells an interesting story,
nevertheless. Not in the least because of
the influence of Ronald Reagan's "War
on Drugs" on a global scale.
Maybe, this documentary should be called
"The History of Marijuana Laws in
USA".
The most bizarre lies are told about
marijuana, and many of these lies came in
the form of propaganda movies. Fragments of
these movies are shown throughout the whole
video. Many of these fragments are good for
a laugh.
But the movie also displays a sad side.
The propaganda may be ridiculous, it is used
as excuse for the most heavy government
downpression measures. You see people
getting sentences of 50 years for selling a
little bit of weed to a undercover
policeman, for example.
Increasingly, the herb was criminalized.
Every now and then, though, some states
would decriminalize it. When Jimmy Carter
ran for president, he even wanted the
decriminalization of weed in the whole of
the USA. But that changed when Jimmy
Carter's assistent was caught sniffing
cokane. And since there was no
differentiation between coke and ganja,
cokane killed the decriminalization of herb
in the USA.
Then the Christian conservatives came to
the surface. They are known to be against
marijuana until this day. The
"Christian Right" swallows every
propaganda lie about weed. Even until this
day, many look to it as the burning wood of
hell as a figure of speak. Ronald Reagan's
"war on drugs" did the rest to
stop the short decrease of government
downpression on ganja users.
"The rules have changed",
George Bush Sr said, when he became
president. He was now going even tuffer on
marijuana. It didn't change with Clinton,
either. Clinton had, according to the movie,
arrested more people for marijuana then any
president before him.
No, the history of marijuana (laws in the
USA) is not something happy at all. Until
this day, the country is suffering under
heavy laws that give the police an excuse to
arrest anyone they want. There are millions
of ganja users in the country, and together
they'll form a nice population for a
prison-state where cheap labor can make
someone very rich.
